I wasn’t really THAT serious then though. After my NS and the short vacation I had after that, I set learning Japanese (at least to JLPT3) as one of my goals this year. Since then I haven’t looked back XD.

How am I learning it? Well google is your friend XD. I have a ton of Japanese materials and resources all downloaded (aka leeched) from the internet. Genki series and minna no nihongo series is decent. Audiobooks, official vocab lists and all…

I dun claim to be an expert (and I still suck) but I’m trying my utmost best XD. Thinking of sitting for JLPT lvl 3 this year XD.

As it stands, up-keeping a blog is already pretty taxing. Well, things have stabilized some, so expect updates to the layout and all.

I’m just as disappointed as you are that they didn’t make ANY attempt whatsoever at streamlining the control scheme. The give realism as an excuse. But put it this way…

Who the HECK wields a knife STANDING STILL. Why can’t we run ard while knifing the zombies? Furthermore, they should have at least let us players fire pistol class weapons on the run.

The control system is what keeps the game from being truly outstanding imho.

However you should really try out the rest of the game man. The story may not be A-rated material but it’s pretty decent none the less.

And the final boss fight is epic. Both the cinematics and the actual fight itself oozes pure brilliance.

I’ll take this over any matrix crap any day XD. Hell, this owns most action films upside down! The final boss can catch a rocket and stop it till it runs out of gas and toss it away! The animation for that is sweet… tho it means you’ll get pwned after that -_-”.

Love the rest of the game… but HATE the controls.

But I’m disappointed in the way they handle their fan-base and publicity. They made some pretty serious blunders with regards to this aspect, and that’s not boosting the ailing confidence in their console.

I would also like to add that while advancements in parallel computing are important, let us not forget the main reason why consoles exist – their database of games. I was really counting on the PS3 to deliver a good array of solid RPGs (or JRPGs, if you want to stereotype) to the market. Let’s face it, Microsoft can only do so much to coax Japanese RPG developers into churning out titles for its console. Sony, with its history of being THE platform for JRPGs to show their full potential, is still in the BEST position to energize the RPG market. Draw your own conclusions here, but the lack of solid JRPGs is a pretty big downer for any JRPG fan these days.

I’m not talking about titles like Mass Effect etc. Sure, I pretty much play anything, and western RPGs are pretty awesome too, but sometimes you just want to kick back and enjoy a classic JRPG storyline done well, even if it is cliche. So far the only RPG that I can call truly awesome on all fronts is Tales of Vesperia. (Star Ocean 4 is good, but the voice acting and lip synthing is urgh. Yes, there is Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, Last Remnant and all, but none of them are worthy of anything more than a 9/10)

Excuse the rant from a guy who is deprived of amazing JRPG titles and would like to see the PS2 era of RPGs again XD.

I think the main problem I have (and a lot of other as well) with the PS3 is it’s lifespan. Typically, a console’s lifespan is around 7 years. As low as 6, or possibly up to 8. After around 5-6 years, new releases starts to dwindle and after a year or so, the console becomes obsolete.

This didn’t really apply to the PS2 because it was –
1) Awesome and tested and proven
2) PS3 delays

But within 8 years, it’s now gone.

Taking that into account, it has already been 3+ years for this current generation of consoles. Already, Microsoft has begun to rope in game developers as part of its plan to brainstorm ideas for the next generation of its console system (even though I hate Microsoft, I give them props for this).

The PS3 doesn’t seem to have much time left to shine. And this is what worries me and is stopping me from picking the console up. Yes, it is still possible with a reversal of tidings for Sony with three to four years left but unfortunately, this year is not looking good for it. Sure, God of War 3 is coming up and I have no doubt that that will be an amazing title, but just one or two titles is not enough. that leaves 3 years? Maybe 2?

Take any comments with a grain of salt though. I’ll admit tt I’m still pretty pissed at Sony for screwing with me as one of their former fans.
